The Questions...
  • What is wrong and what is right for me?
  • What are my real priorities?
  • What might new rules of career and life design look like?
  • Does a "career" mean we do the same kind of work or stay in the same industry for life?

What Does It Do?

Working with the unique PaperRoom System brings the influence of past attitudes and assumptions into focus. You see what is stopping you, what has motivated you in the past, and what no longer works, enabling you to clear the slate and create strategies that will work now. The process reveals how you have fulfilled your needs for recognition, accomplishment, challenge, and connection The PaperRoom System provides the tools needed for you to achieve the work and life that's right for you and makes your dreams a reality. With your new understanding of life stages, work patterns, family attitudes, and peak experiences, you discover how to make the choices to best navigate a vibrant fulfilling life.

How Did It Start?

In 1995 Sydney Rice developed the PaperRoom System using adult learning methodology, personal systems concepts, professional coaching methods, traditional mentoring practices, and her own personal experience to work more effectively with her coaching clients. It got named the "PaperRoom" because at its early stages the process could only be taken at the Boston Coaching Company's office where the process unfolded on almost 6 yards of paper covering three walls of a small room used only for that purpose. Today, over 600 individuals have taken part in the PaperRoom Process in that room. In early 2003, the PaperRoom broke out of its small confines; Davies-Black published the book Choice Points: Navigating Your Career with The Unique PaperRoom Process, The Boston Coaching Company licensed 10 PaperRoom facilitators and launched the PaperRoom group Workshops at Time Inc.
